My name is Chandler Haviland Storrs. I am a dyslexia educator, a spiritual director & a writer, based in Indianapolis, Indiana.

I’m currently available for scheduling spiritual direction and dyslexia tutoring consults. I can take on two more spiritual direction clients in 2024. I am starting dyslexia tutoring in February of 2024. I have a capacity for 10 students total.

“There is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself. It is the only true guide you will ever have. And if you cannot hear it, you will all of your life spend your days on the ends of strings that somebody else pulls.”
― Howard Thurman

After graduating with a Master’s in Urban Education in 2013, from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, I have spent the last decade working with children: in schools, in a dyslexia non-profit, and in starting my own business to help students who struggle in school.

Dyslexia Tutoring

I tutor students with dyslexia, AHHD and ASD, and often all three. Parents have told me they often struggle to find academic and behavioral support in one place & so I provide a supportive and encouraging academic container for students to practice what is hardest for them: reading and writing. I use the Orton-Gillingham approach and was trained by the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana (2014) and Fortune Academy (2016). I am a licensed K-8 teacher in both Michigan and Indiana.

Spiritual Direction

I sit with folks & provide compassionate witness to their spiritual unfolding. As directees go through seasons of doubt, waiting, excitement, and confusion, I ask reflective questions and listen to their stories and questions about themselves & their relationship to the Divine (as they define this.) I completed my training through Fall Creek Abbey in Indianapolis in 2019.

Writing

I’ve had some short work published in Geez Magazine, AZE Journal, and the Therapeutic Edgelands Zine. I’m working on a few longer form pieces in 2024. I also write on my Substack Encounters with Ease.

Today, I practice both dyslexia work & spiritual direction because both require a slowness, a consistency, an attention. One must be present to the celebrations & frustrations of life. I infuse working with kids with a spiritual awareness, and working with adults with a curiosity and wonder.
